Julien Alfred stormed to victory in the women’s 200 metre final at the Diamond League meet on Friday, clocking 21.51 seconds to become the third-fastest woman ever over the distance.
The Saint Lucian sprinter recovered from a slow start out of the blocks and powered through the final 50 metres to set a new world lead, finishing 0.25 seconds ahead of Adaejah Hodge of the British Virgin Islands.
With the performance, Alfred moved ahead of Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah’s 21.53 to claim third place on the women’s all-time 200m list.
