Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has extended her deepest condolences to the Government and people of the United States of America, as well as the families, loved ones and fellow service members of three United States military personnel, including one of Trinidad and Tobago heritage, who lost their lives in the line of duty in Jordan earlier this month.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Prime Minister paid special tribute to 28-year-old Sergeant Angel Sarah Rampersad, whose Trinidad and Tobago heritage was formally confirmed by United States authorities.
Sergeant Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, was killed in action on July 17th, 2026, during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, Jordan. US Central Command had previously announced that the soldier was missing.
According to information from the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Sergeant Rampersad’s father is a national of Trinidad and Tobago, while her mother is an American citizen.
“Her passing is therefore mourned with particular sorrow in Trinidad and Tobago. Though she served under the flag of the United States, Sergeant Rampersad also shared a meaningful connection with our nation through her Trinidad and Tobago heritage.”
The Ministry stated that United States authorities formally notified Trinidad and Tobago’s Acting Vice Consulate in New York of Sergeant Rampersad’s death. Upon learning of her passing, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Sean Sobers, spoke with her father on Tuesday, July 21st, 2026, and personally extended condolences to him and the wider family on behalf of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago.
On Tuesday, July 21st, 2026, a team from the Consulate General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in New York visited Sergeant Rampersad’s family to express the nation’s sympathies and offer support.
“The Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago mourn Sergeant Rampersad and her two fallen colleagues, who made the ultimate sacrifice while performing their duties. Their service commands our deepest respect, and their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
Sergeant Rampersad’s Trinidad and Tobago heritage gives her loss a particular resonance for our nation. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to her parents and relatives, her fellow service members, and all those whose lives she touched.
May Sergeant Angel Sarah Rampersad and her fallen colleagues rest in eternal peace, and may their grieving families find strength and comfort in knowing that their service, courage and sacrifice will be remembered and honoured.”
