With that in mind, Tobago Information Technology Limited (TITL) hosted an AI Symposium on Thursday, providing Tobagonians with insights into the evolving digital landscape and exploring how they can equip themselves to be part of an increasingly technology-driven future.

Have you ever wondered why AI generated voices never truly capture the authentic Tobagonian or Trinidadian accents? Or that images seem to distort features of the islands, or landmarks? Well, it is because islands like Tobago, Trinidad and the rest of the Caribbean are not producing data to be represented in global data bases.
Executive Director of UWI’s Artificial Intelligence Innovation Centre, Dr. Craig Ramlal, explained that without data, AI systems will unable to suit our needs.
Dr. Ramlal pointed out that the lack of data is due to a lack of research.
Another area which is lacking in the Caribbean is Cyber Security. Digital Strategist, Keron Rose said the Caribbean remains vulnerable.
Mr. Rose reported that by 2030, 92 thousand traditional job titles will be eliminated; however, 170 million new job titles will be created. To understand how to pivot into the new job market, Mr. Rose suggests researching and paying attention to the changing trends.
