A female Prisons Officer with more than 19 years of service has been arrested after allegedly being found with a quantity of prohibited articles at the Golden Grove Prison.
The officer was intercepted during a routine security check shortly before 9am today.
Police were contacted, and she was escorted to the Arouca Police Station, where she is assisting with investigations. She is expected to be formally charged.
Acting Commissioner of Prisons Elvin Scanterbury says the arrest underscores that no one, regardless of rank or gender, is above the law.
The Prison Service says it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward contraband and illegal activity within its facilities.
