Government Provides TT$42,270 Grant To San Fernando Centre For Displaced Persons

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services is strengthening support for socially displaced persons in San Fernando with a one-off grant of $42,270.

The funding was presented on Tuesday to the San Fernando Centre for Displaced Persons to support its “Beyond Shelter” holistic reintegration programme.

The grant will finance counselling, psychotherapy and case management services for one year, while also helping to upgrade sleeping facilities with bunk beds, mattresses and pillows.

The Centre has provided accommodation and support to socially displaced and homeless persons, mainly men, for the past ten years.

It serves vulnerable groups, including elderly persons and people with disabilities.

This is the first government funding received by the Centre, which has primarily relied on donations, fundraising and volunteers.

Minister Vandana Mohit says stronger partnerships with community organisations can help ensure support reaches those who need it most.
