Morvant Man Dies After Police-involved Shooting

Police have recovered a rifle, a quantity of assorted ammunition and other illegal items after a police-involved shooting in Morvant.

Between 2am and 6am on Tuesday 25th August, 2026, officers assigned to the Morvant Criminal Investigations Department (CID), North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF), Morvant Police Station and San Juan CID conducted an operation codenamed “Operation RESOLUTE Shield” in the Morvant Police Station District.

The operation was spearheaded by Snr. Supt. Guy-Alleyne, Supt. Birch, coordinated by Insp. Ramsingh, and supervised by W/Cpl Daniel and Cpl. Andrews.

Acting on intelligence, officers proceeded to Clarence Circular, Never Dirty, Morvant, in search of Kebeedy “Rhino” Perpignac, who was a person of interest in several recent homicides in the Morvant and Besson Street Police Station districts, and was the subject of an outstanding Preventive Detention Order.

Upon arrival at Perpignac’s residence, the officers announced their presence, and he confronted them armed with a firearm.

The officers called out to him to drop the firearm however he refused and engaged the officers.

Acting in accordance with the TTPS Use of Force Policy, officers discharged their firearms in Perpignac’s direction.

He fell to the ground and was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital (POSGH) where he succumbed to his injuries.

A subsequent search of the premises yielded an AR-15 rifle, 71 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 16 rounds 7.62 ammunition, a blue swivel light, a pair of blue strobe lights, two (2) black bullet-proof vests, a pair of tactical gloves, a pair of handcuffs, and one (1) full camouflage uniform.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
