As we celebrate TTT Limited’s 64th anniversary, we take a journey through more than six decades of broadcasting history.
Founded on August 24th, 1962, just one week before Trinidad and Tobago attained Independence, TTT became the first television station in the Commonwealth Caribbean.
Over the years, the state media company’s mission has remained constant: to inform, educate and entertain the public.
That mandate has been carried out by generations of dedicated media professionals, beginning with Mervyn Telfer, who anchored TTT’s inaugural newscast, and Hazel Ward-Redman, the station’s first weather presenter.
TTT also became the home of many of the nation’s most respected broadcasters, journalists and media personalities, helping to shape the country’s broadcasting landscape.
From moments of national pride and celebration, to periods of uncertainty and crisis, including the attempted coup of 1990, TTT has been there to document the nation’s story as it unfolded.
The station has also played a vital role in preserving and promoting Trinidad and Tobago’s rich cultural identity through some of the country’s most iconic and beloved television programmes.
Across its rich past and modern transformation, TTT has remained committed to public service broadcasting.
