Agriculture stakeholders from Trinidad and Tobago, the wider Caribbean and China are looking at ways to strengthen cooperation and transform the region’s agricultural sector.

Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Senator the Honourable Ravi Ratiram, joined stakeholders at the China-Caribbean Agricultural Development and Transformation Seminar, hosted by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in collaboration with UWI’s Faculty of Food and Agriculture.
Held at the Frank Stockdale Building, the seminar brought together agricultural stakeholders to exchange knowledge, share experiences and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The discussions also looked at practical approaches to advancing agricultural development and strengthening the sector across the region.
Among those addressing the seminar were China’s Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Ren Hongyan; Consul General for The Bahamas, Her Excellency Dr. Elaine Davis; and Ms. Li Xuedi of China Agricultural University.
With food security, innovation and agricultural development remaining key priorities, the seminar provided an opportunity for Trinidad and Tobago and its Caribbean neighbours to examine how international partnerships can support the transformation of agriculture.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen China-Caribbean cooperation and identify practical opportunities for growth and development in agriculture.
