The Government is engaging bp Trinidad and Tobago and the National Gas Company on plans to advance the Manakin/Cocuina cross-border gas project.
Energy Minister, Dr. Roodal Moonilal led discussions with representatives of bpTT and NGC on Thursday, focusing on the status and development of the natural gas resource.

The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI) convened discussions with representatives of bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) and the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) on the development of the Manakin/Cocuina Cross-Border Gas Project. The meeting was led by Dr. the Honourable Roodal Moonilal, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, and included Ms. Karinsa Tulsie, Permanent Secretary, and Ms. Ava Mahabir-Dass, Permanent Secretary (Ag), together with representatives of the MEEI, bpTT and NGC. The meeting took place at the Ministry’s Head office today, Thursday, 17th September, 2026.
Discussions focused on the status and development of the Manakin/Cocuina cross-border natural gas resource, including opportunities for additional collaboration among the Government, bpTT and NGC to advance the project. The Manakin/Cocuina field is a natural gas resource that straddles the maritime boundary between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.
This engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to advance discussions surrounding the development of the cross-border resource and its potential contribution to Trinidad and Tobago’s natural gas sector.
Minister Moonilal underscored the importance of continued collaboration among the relevant stakeholders as Trinidad and Tobago examines opportunities for the responsible development of its natural gas resources and the strengthening of the country’s energy sector.
