At approximately 12:07 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, officers attached to the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) at the Port of Spain Prison intercepted a pair of garden boots containing prohibited items which had been thrown over the prison’s perimeter wall.
A total of six hundred (600) cigarettes was discovered concealed inside.
Commissioner of Prisons (Ag.), Mr. Elvin Scanterbury, commended the diligence and commitment of the Prisons Officers involved in intercepting the prohibited items. He noted that the incident highlights the persistent attempts by individuals to introduce contraband into correctional facilities.
The Commissioner further reiterated the TTPrS’ commitment to maintaining vigilance and strengthening measures to prevent the introduction of prohibited items into prisons.
Investigations are continuing with the assistance of external law enforcement agencies.
