The House of Representatives has approved the President’s notifications for Junior Benjamin to act as Commissioner of Police and Anand Ramesar to act as Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The appointments were approved on Wednesday and will take effect during the period when Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro is out of office.
The motions received the support of 23 members, while eight members voted against, following debate in the Lower House.
Piloting the motion, Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander defended the appointments, expressing confidence in both officers’ ability to lead the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service during the interim period.
“These two officers, they are ready to serve, and I look forward to the next coming days to work alongside these officers in this state that we are in presently, where the crime figures is truly going down.”
