Government Targets Expanded Air Connectivity As It Seeks Aviation Hub Status

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Eli Zakour, says Government is actively negotiating with multiple foreign carriers as it seeks to expand Trinidad and Tobago’s international air links, strengthen tourism, boost trade and position the country as a regional aviation hub.

Speaking on TTT’s Focus Programme on Saturday, he said negotiations are currently taking place with carriers in the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Brazil as Government works to translate recently signed air service agreements into new routes.

“It’s also good to know that you do not need an air service agreement to come, but many countries and airlines prefer it because it sets out a legal framework. So now that we have these air service agreements signed, we are in conversation with several airlines, two airlines in Dominican Republic, one airline in Colombia, another in Brazil.”
