This country’s gas supply is on the uptick.
This from Minister of Finance, Davendranath Tancoo as he outlined a list of gas projects in the pipeline during today’s 2026/2027 National Budget presentation.
During the National Budget Presentation, Finance Minister, Davendranath Tancoo listed a number of gas exploration projects which he said will improve this country’s natural gas supply.
He said Point Lisas Industrial Estate is in need of gas, describing the operations on the site as a “ghost town”.
“Mr. Speaker, bpTT has secured and exploration and production license for Loran Phase II which places this country in a strategic position to monetize potentially more than four trillion cubic feet of natural gas from several cross fields, cross border and resource fields, and that is using the country’s existing energy infrastructure. That is performance, UNC style.”
He highlighted another important bpTT project from other multinational energy stakeholders.
“Furthermore, bpTT has agreed to acquire Woodside’s seventy percent stake in the Calypso gas field, giving bpTT full control of one of this country’s largest undeveloped gas discoveries. This is expected to close by the end of 2026 and will significantly strengthen the country’s long term gas supply and export outlook. Mr. Speaker negotiations are well advanced with Shell and other energy companies for further exploitation of cross water and deepwater gas.”
The Finance Minister noted that these projects will turn the natural gas supply around.
“The bpTT Ginger is targeted to deliver first gas in the first quarter of 2027 with projected peak production of three hundred and thirty five million scfs per day. Mahogany A extended field will deliver first gas in 2027 with an expected peak of two hundred million scfs per day. Juniper Phase II will deliver first gas also in 2027 with peak production of two hundred and seventy million scfs per day.”
The Finance Minister noted that several products are producing, or expected to see final investment soon.
“Angelin extended field is currently producing one hundred and twenty seven million scfs per day. Manakin Cocquina will see final investment decision in November 2026, that’s next month. Mento Phase II is expected to produce two hundred and twenty five million scfs per day when it comes on stream.”
The Finance Minister noted that Coconut, Aphrodite and Manatee Plus are all projects which are in the pipeline.
