Phillip Watts Backs Sekel McIntosh’s Table Tennis Song Ahead Of Peru Launch

Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, the Honourable Phillip Watts, received a courtesy visit from the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association (TTTTA) President Sharon Bravo-Phillip; national table tennis athlete and artiste Sekel McIntosh; his father, Trevor McIntosh; and song producer Richard Ahong.

During the visit, Minister Watts pledged his support to McIntosh as he prepares to travel to Peru on Friday for the international launch of “Let’s Go (Chole),” which is being considered for adoption and promotion as the official song of ITTF Americas. The initiative positions a creative project originating in Trinidad and Tobago for the opportunity to become a musical identity for table tennis across the Americas.

The delegation presented the song and shared the vision behind the project, which brings together sport, music, culture and youth development. Minister Watts expressed his excitement after listening to the track and watching McIntosh demonstrate the energetic dance moves associated with the song.

The Minister said he was thrilled to see the creativity of Trinidad and Tobago nationals reaching an international audience through an initiative designed to connect athletes and supporters across the region.

“This is a proud moment for Trinidad and Tobago,” Minister Watts said. “It demonstrates the immense talent, creativity and potential of our young people, both in sport and in the creative industries. To see a national athlete contribute to an initiative that will connect table tennis, music and culture across the region is truly inspiring.”

“Let’s Go (Chole)” is performed by McIntosh in collaboration with Lawrence Adams, known professionally as Renzo. ITTF Americas has outlined opportunities for the song to be used at competitions and in promotional activities throughout the region, including player entrances, competition sessions, award ceremonies, broadcasts, digital content and social-media campaigns.

The proposed partnership offers an opportunity to strengthen table tennis’s appeal among younger audiences by combining the excitement of competition with music, dance and contemporary culture. It also creates a platform to showcase Trinidad and Tobago’s sporting and artistic talent beyond the competition arena.

Reflecting on the journey, McIntosh told Minister Watts: “It has been one year since I started working on this project. There have been a lot of ups and downs, and finally my song is here.”

McIntosh explained that the song is intended to reflect the diversity of languages, people and cultures throughout the Americas. His collaboration with Renzo reinforces the project’s inclusive message and its aim of bringing athletes, supporters and table tennis communities together.

The team will travel to Peru for the official launch. A music video is also scheduled to be filmed there, featuring athletes and capturing the energy, unity and international character of table tennis in the Americas.

Minister Watts commended the TTTTA and the creative team for their innovation and for pursuing an initiative that places Trinidad and Tobago’s talent before an international audience. He recognised the project’s potential to create opportunities beyond athletic performance, including youth engagement, artistic expression, national promotion and collaboration with the creative sector.

TTTTA President Sharon Bravo-Phillip welcomed the Ministry’s support and highlighted the significance of the opportunity for Trinidad and Tobago. In its correspondence on the initiative, ITTF Americas recognised the Association’s role in identifying the project’s potential and helping to create a pathway for its promotion on the continental stage.

The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs extends best wishes to Sekel McIntosh, the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association, and the creative team as they prepare to represent Trinidad and Tobago in Peru.
