Practical application met education as Presto proudly launched its Hydroponics Initiative at Marabella Government Primary School on Thursday, October 29, 2026, reinforcing its commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture, environmental awareness and youth development across Trinidad and Tobago.
As part of this initiative, teachers and students received a hydroponics system designed to introduce innovative approaches to plant propagation and care. The school also benefited from a donation of recycled benches from Super Pharm, highlighting the importance of sustainability and the responsible use of resources.
The launch was attended by Dr. the Honourable Michael Dowlath, Minister of Education, Mr. Jean-Luc Mouttet, Presto’s Business Development Director, and senior executives from Presto Market, SuperPharm Limited and the wider Agostini Group.
Minister Dowlath, in his address at the launch, thanked Presto, and all partners involved in executing this initiative and encouraged teachers and students to maximise the potential of the tools provided.
“It is these partners in education that help our school supervisors and our principals to create the fertile soil to create better learning opportunities for our students.”
Aligned with the National Primary School Curriculum in Agricultural Science, with an integrated focus on agribusiness, the initiative will provide Standards 3 and 4 students with valuable opportunities to apply classroom learning through practical, hands-on experiences. By learning how to cultivate plants using hydroponic technology, students can explore opportunities to generate income, support their families and share their knowledge with others in their communities.
The programme will also complement the implementation of the Continuous Assessment Component (CAC), offering students an opportunity to develop practical skills as part of the curriculum. The Ministry of Education continues to support projects like this one which aim to equip children with practical, transferable life skills that can contribute to their personal development in and beyond the classroom.
