On Thursday, October 29, 2026, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Prisons Officers attached to the Maximum Security Prison intercepted and confiscated a package delivered by a drone. The package was secured with a length of string and contained the following prohibited articles:
- Thirty-two (32) packs of Lucky Strike cigarettes
- Two (2) screen protectors
- Nine hundred and fifty-three (953) grams of plant-like material resembling marijuana
Commissioner of Prisons (Ag.) Mr. Elvin Scanterbury noted that the use of technology to introduce contraband into prison facilities presents an increasingly complex challenge for the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service. The use of drones to deliver prohibited items makes the fight against contraband trafficking even more difficult, requiring continued vigilance, enhanced security measures and proactive operational responses by Prisons Officers.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to combating the introduction of contraband into prison facilities and commended Prisons Officers for their vigilance and dedication in detecting and intercepting prohibited items.
Investigations are continuing into the discovery with the assistance of external law enforcement agencies.
