Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander, says the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is moving in a positive direction, and its work is having a similar impact on crime. With a 46 per cent decrease in murders compared to the last two years, Minister’s eyes are now focused on repeat bail offenders.
Speaking on TTT’s FOCUS Morning Show, Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander, questioned whether persons on multiple charges should be allowed to walk around out on bail while victims continue to relive the trauma The Minister believes there should be a limit of three strikes on a person’s record.
“There are some persons walking around with 20 and 30 offences and still on bail. When does it end. How much persons he have to rob, how much persons he have to kill, how much persons he have to stab, how much cars he have to steal, how much home invasion he has to do until before someone says enough is enough.”
Meanwhile, in light of the recent robbery in Maraval and similar situations in the past, Minister Alexander believes financial institutions should reconsider where ATM machines are positioned in the bank to protect customers from prying ears and eyes.
“They need to move that system from the corridors of the public. That money machine. And then it have online banking, we need to help the elderly or some of the persons involving online banking where you could transfer some money to someone without any drama of having the cash on you.”
The Minister says the public should be vigilant when depositing or withdrawing large sums of cash, and report any suspicious activity to the police.
