Assistant Commissioner of Police Wayne Mystar, Head of the Municipal Police Service, is commending Woman Assistant Superintendent Phillips, Commander of the Chaguanas Municipal Police, and the officers under her command for their vigilance, professionalism, and proactive policing efforts which led to the detection of a potential public health concern during an operation conducted along Narsaloo Ramaya Road, Chaguanas.
During the exercise, Municipal Police officers detained a 35 year old male vendor of Chaguanas who was engaged in the sale of potatoes. Subsequent enquiries and investigations allegedly revealed that the produce may have been sourced from the Claxton Bay Dump. As a result, immediate action was taken by officers to safeguard public health and initiate further investigations into the matter. The said vendor was arrested and assisting officers with its investigation.
ACP Mystar praised the officers involved, noting that their actions exemplify the critical role Municipal Police officers play not only in maintaining law and order but also in protecting the health, safety, and well-being of citizens.

Their attentiveness potentially prevented a serious public health issue and reflects the high standards expected of members of the Municipal Police Service. I commend every officer involved for their dedication and professionalism,” ACP Mystar stated.

- Do not consume any potatoes purchased from the vendor involved in this matter.
- Dispose of the potatoes immediately in a safe manner.
- Thoroughly wash and sanitize any surfaces, containers, or utensils that may have come into contact with the produce.
- Seek medical attention if you have consumed the potatoes and are experiencing any adverse symptoms or health concerns.
- Purchase food products only from reputable vendors and approved vending locations where food safety standards can be properly monitored.
Food items recovered from landfill or waste disposal sites may be exposed to harmful bacteria, contaminants, chemicals, and other hazardous substances that can pose significant health risks to consumers.
