African Emancipation Day Celebrated At OPM

On Thursday, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar attended African Emancipation Day celebrations at the Office of the Prime Minister in St. Clair, where staff took part in a fashion show, showcasing their vibrant, bold, and intricate traditional African wear.

The Prime Minister, dressed in traditional Kente cloth, which originated from West Ghana, welcomed the Ghanaian Minister with responsibility for Special Initiatives, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, who is visiting Trinidad and Tobago for the African Emancipation Day celebrations.

“I went to the Emancipation Village on Sunday, and I walked through all the displays, and I spotted this dress on a mannequin. I said, I’m taking that one. Just by chance. I loved it, and I took it, and today, I have the pleasure of welcoming a special minister from Ghana, I’ll be meeting later, and their special cloth is Kente.”

Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar shared that there will also be bilateral discussions with the Head-Designate of the African EXIM Bank in the coming days.
