Contrary to circulating media reports, passenger traffic at Piarco International Airport remains robust, according to the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Authority says international visitor traffic reached a peak of 181,411 passengers in July, up from 178,298 in July 2025.
While June international passenger traffic was down by approximately 4.5 per cent year-on-year, the Authority says the monthly fluctuations do not support claims that Piarco is “significantly emptier.”
It says passenger traffic should also not be assessed solely on international numbers, pointing to strong domestic passenger traffic, which has in some instances surpassed pre-COVID levels.
The Authority says it continues to work with airline, tourism and other industry partners to strengthen air service and connectivity.
Two new regional carriers, Winair and interCaribbean Airways joined Trinidad and Tobago’s air-service network this year.
And further expansion is expected in October, with Contour Airlines and Sunrise Airways set to commence services.
Contour is expected to begin a twice-weekly nonstop service between Dominica and Piarco from October fifth.
The Airports Authority says the continued expansion of air services is intended to strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s connectivity with key markets across the Caribbean and internationally.
