Alexander – PEP Not Yet Disbanded

Political Leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party, Phillip Edward Alexander, is doubling down on efforts to disband the party.

Following the April 28th General Election, he was quoted as saying that his PEP party may be disbanded, since he plans to formally join the United National Congress.

Mr Alexander, who was sworn-in as a Minister in the Ministry of Housing on Wednesday afternoon gave an update on the decision.

“We are, we were talking about it. We still are very much considering that it is the right step. Maintaining two political identities, that going in the same direction seems superfluous at this point. So our intention and we’re having an executive meeting on Friday to come to a final decision and to ratify the original idea. If we’re going forward with that.”

And Mr Alexander was also asked whether he will continue to be the same ‘outspoken’ person he’s been known.

On Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s warning to her Cabinet Ministers and Members of Parliament last Thursday, Mr Alexander said he’s confident that it is something everyone in the party will ‘take seriously.’

“Well, she knows me well, and I would not have signed on had I not agreed with the plans, the people she was bringing on board. I am really excited to work with this team. I think we’re going to deliver. I don’t think we’re going to have some of the problems she has had that we experienced politically in the past. I think she has so much experience, and she’s worked so hard to get back here. She’s told us. She’s told us publicly. She’s told us privately. She’s told us one-on-one. She told us over dinner, don’t mess up. Don’t lose sight of the ground, because we’ll bring you right back down. She’s very serious about that. And I think that all of you know, during the People’s Partnership experience, Ministers that messed up found themselves out the door quickly.”
