Battling the ‘Crosswinds to Opportunities’ is the theme specifically chosen by the American Chamber of Commerce as they examine the business environment around T&T.
Addressing attendees at their Economic Outlook Forum on Wednesday, AMCHAM President Anna Henderson said maintaining the status quo will not achieve the level of growth, diversification and job creation that the economy requires.
“Change is no longer cyclical. Instead, rapid change is now our norm. In moments like this it is easy to become distracted by noise, to be drawn into short term thinking and feelings of uncertainty and frustration. But everyone here knows that business does not succeed on distraction”
She said the fourth revolution is here and it means transforming society’s function to match the present needs of a digital agenda. Ms. Henderson says we must see the advantages of digital industries, high value jobs, and modern enterprises to remain globally connected.
“Energy must become more than a revenue stream. It must become a platform, a platform to build new industries, a platform to deepen competitiveness, a platform to drive diversification.”
She commended the Government on showing visible intent to address long-standing inefficiencies that affect trade, border crime management, and institutional effectiveness — not just as social footnotes, but as economic imperatives.
