Angostura Marks Major Milestone With First Shipment To India in 11 Years

Angostura Holdings Limited has marked a significant milestone with the dispatch of its first shipment to India in eleven years.

At a ceremony on Tuesday marking its re-entry into the Indian market, the company’s role in driving economic diversification and enhancing the country’s global presence was highlighted.

Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism Satyakama Maharaj described Angostura’s re-entry into the Indian market as both the return of one of Trinidad and Tobago’s strongest brands and the opening of new opportunities for growth, partnership and sustained export development.

“At present, our exports are 80% energy-related and 20% non-energy. Our five-year plan is to get this to 50/50, even before the five years are up. Angostura, you have an important role to play in that.”

The Minister stated that the government has developed an economic transformation and development plan designed to deliver sustained investment, diversification, and growth in foreign exchange earnings. He emphasised that the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism is pursuing an export revenue growth of US$2 billion in two years and $5 billion in five years, with Angostura identified as a key contributor.

Angostura’s Chairman, Gary Hunt, said the shipment to India was more than a commercial transaction. He said it represents the first phase of a structured long-term growth strategy, beginning with three Indian provinces—Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

“This shipment is more than a commercial transaction. It represents the first phase of a carefully structured long-term growth strategy beginning with three key Indian provinces, Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra, designed to build a sustainable, enduring footprint in one of the world’s most dynamic spirits markets.”

Mr. Hunt noted that Angostura Bitters already enjoy strong recognition among India’s hospitality professionals and that the expansion carries with it the story of Trinidad and Tobago’s craftsmanship, culture, and excellence. He added that Angostura’s presence in India will contribute to foreign exchange earnings, support local jobs, and strengthen national economic resilience.
