Angostura Unveils New Look For Premium Rums

The House of Angostura has unveiled new packaging for its premium rums at an exclusive launch on Thursday evening.

As the company expands globally, it’s refreshing the brand’s image to match its premium status.

Speaking at The Summit at Avala in Chaguanas, Deputy CEO Rahim Mohammed said the redesign follows two years of development and will debut locally first, underscoring the value of supporting home-grown brands.

“Buy local! Right. Don’t take your money and support international brands that really don’t give back to the national community. Right? We employ, we train, we take our revenue, and we put it into national development.”

Mr. Mohammed said local support fuels a ripple effect for jobs and national growth.

Chief Brand Educator Raymond Edwards added that Angostura sells more than rum — it sells experiences rooted in a 200-year legacy that began with bitters.

“What you put in is what you get out. He wanted to perfect the quality of his bitters, and he knew the only way to do so was to perfect the quality of the base. So the House of Angostura is the leading authority for rum in the region and the reason why we got into the rum business is because of bitters.”

Master Distiller John Georges spoke of the craftsmanship behind the premium range, saying he takes “immense pride” in creating it locally with a team of skilled blenders — and in sharing that passion abroad.

“But, definitely dedicated to Trinidad and Tobago and in this case to our rum. It’s what we do, what we do well. And I got the opportunity to spread the word around the world and I missed a trick. I didn’t get to spread it in Trinidad.”

Mr. Georges said he’s excited to introduce premium rum at home, proving the label isn’t reserved only for whisky or other spirits.

In his feature address, Angostura’s Chairman Gary Hunt noted the brand is now in 170 countries and said the new look will boost visibility while embracing sustainability.

“What we’ve done is reducing bottle weight and using responsibly sourced paper for our labels. We are taking very meaningful steps towards a greener future because great rum should leave a positive mark on our planet.”

Mr. Hunt added that every time Angostura enters a new market, it also carries the people and culture of Trinidad and Tobago.
