The Borough of Arima is celebrating a major milestone: 137 years since it was granted Royal Chartered Borough status.
The festivities coincide with Trinidad and Tobago’s Emancipation Day observances.
Speaking at a press conference at the Arima Borough Corporation, Mayor Balliram Maharaj officially unveiled the calendar of events planned for the celebrations. He said the moment is a time for reflection, celebration, and commitment.
“Today, on the eve of a dual national celebration, I wish the people of Trinidad and Tobago a joyful Emancipation Day, and I extend heartfelt greetings to the people of Arima on the occasion of our 137th celebration of the Borough anniversary.”
Mayor Maharaj emphasised that, despite financial limitations, the Corporation remains focused on preserving the heart of the celebrations.
“Although we face financial limitations this year, the Arima Borough Corporation is committed to preserving the essence of our annual celebration. The programme will include key cultural and civic events, among them a Thanksgiving Service at the Santa Rosa RC Church this Sunday, the 3rd of August, at 9 am, the cherished Borough Day Parade of Bands on the 9th of August, 2025.”
He called on the media, residents, and stakeholders to support revitalisation efforts, not just for celebrations but for critical infrastructure like the Larry Gomes Stadium and the Arima Town Hall.
“These are not just buildings. They are spaces of civic pride and community development. Our story is rich. Our future must be no less inspiring. To make that future possible, we need more than just a celebration. We need your support.”
A full list of activities will be released in the coming week but for now, the Mayor said the place to be in August is Arima.
