Key Points From Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi’s Media Conference – Monday October 18th 2021

Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi confirmed the Office of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs was cleared this morning, and the streets cordoned off after a device was found in a car park nearby. The device was later detonated. AG Al-Rawi also confirmed that there was shattered glass on the 6th floor of the building. Police and fire officers are continuing investigations into the incident.

AG Al-Rawi addressed matters raised by Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar last week regarding her party’s move to remove President Paula-Mae Weekes over matters involving the Police Service Commission and the appointment of a Police Commissioner. He confirmed that the UNC’s Motion has been filed and is before the Parliament, adding that the Motion is “unprecedented.” He described it as “an unjustified attack” on the Office of the President, saying, “There are no facts which I believe to be sustainable for this particular Motion.”
