Bands Take To The Streets As San Fernando Carnival Continues

Although the competition component of San Fernando Carnival 2026 was suspended, masqueraders and spectators came out in their numbers to participate in the festivities.

Scheduled to kick off at 11am on Carnival Tuesday, the first band to cross the stage along the Rienzi Kirton Highway, beside Skinner Park’s second grounds, was Black Heart Productions.

The fancy Indian band was in the small band category with fewer than 50 masqueraders in the band’s two sections. Their Carnival 2026 portrayal was titled ‘The World of the Indigenous’.

In addition to spectators and masqueraders, there was a heavy security presence, with uniformed police officers stationed along the parade route.

The second band to cross the stage, shortly before 1pm, was Jaggessar Costumes.

Also portraying the traditional fancy Indian, the band had four sections and a number of individual masqueraders in their portrayal of ‘On the Eve of Battle’.

San Fernando’s parade of the bands is expected to conclude at 9pm.
