The holiday season came alive at Brentwood Mall in Chaguanas on Sunday as its first-ever Christmas tree, standing some 60 feet tall, was lit.
Families turned out in large numbers to witness the event, writing their names and Christmas wishes on snowflake-shaped ornaments and placing them gently on the tree. Some received help from a few moko jumbies, while others enjoyed steelpan music, singing and dancing along with Santa Claus. Even the Grinch took a moment to soak up the Christmas spirit.
Chaguanas Mayor Faaiq Mohammed said events like these were important for fostering community spirit.
“The reason behind this tree is for Brentwood, the management staff of Brentwood, to basically invoke that Christmas spirit into the people of Trinidad and Tobago. That spirit of peace, love, and unity. And we hope that this carries on throughout Trinidad and Tobago for this season and beyond.”
Managing Director of Caribbean Housing Limited Daran Bahadoorsingh said giving something back to Trinidad and Tobago means a lot to the company. He said the public can look forward to much more from the Brentwood Town Centre in 2026, including the opening of the final phase of the mall extension.
“It’s only the beginning of our Christmas celebrations. Many sales and activities and pop-ups and festivities yet to come.”
In celebration of the season, Mr. Bahadoorsingh gave best wishes on behalf of the company.
“We wish you all a very, very Merry Christmas. A very happy, bright, and prosperous 2026 and come to Brentwood Town Centre. We’re here to welcome you. Merry Christmas. Happy New Year.”
