British Boxing Star Mourns Team Members After Car Accident

British boxing star Anthony Joshua is recovering after a tragic car crash in Nigeria that killed two of his close team members and led to charges against his driver.

The accident happened on Monday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the SUV Joshua was travelling in slammed into a stationary truck. His personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, were pronounced dead at the scene. Joshua was hospitalised with injuries and discharged on Wednesday.

Police say the driver, 46-year-old Ade-niyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, along with three other traffic offences. He appeared in a Sagamu court on Friday, and the case has been adjourned until January 20.

Authorities say Joshua, described as “heavy-hearted”. His long-time promoter Eddie Hearn paid tribute, saying, “Rest in peace Latz and Sina… Your energy and loyalty will be deeply missed.”

The former world champion is said to be mourning privately as investigations continue.
