The calypso fraternity has lost another long-standing member.
Word came today that veteran calypsonian Donric Williamson, better known as ‘Lord Funny,’ has died at the age of 84.
Famous for his witty and humorous calypsoes, ‘Funny’ was most recently inducted into the Sunshine Awards Hall of Fame in the United States last October.
He was awarded the Keys to the City of Port of Spain in 1989, received a Sunshine Award in 2000 for his contribution to the performing arts, and in 2018, was honoured with the Hummingbird Medal (Silver) for his service to culture.
Among his repertoire were witty calypsoes such as “Sweet, Sweet Trinidad,” “Farmer Brown,” “How You Feel?,” “Ding Dong,” “Soul Chick,” and “Florie.”
