The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has expressed deep sadness at the death of Gabriel Serville, President of the Territorial Collectivity of French Guiana, who died on Wednesday 30 September.
In a statement, the regional grouping said Serville dedicated many years of his life to public service in national politics and academia.
CARICOM noted that he led efforts to deepen French Guiana’s engagement with the Community. Those efforts were formalised on 7 July 2026, when French Guiana became CARICOM’s eighth Associate Member.
“CARICOM acknowledges his contribution to efforts to promote dialogue and cooperation in areas critical to regional development,” the statement said.
The Community extended its deepest condolences to the government and people of French Guiana.
