The 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China was celebrated as officials reflected on the enduring relationship between China and Trinidad and Tobago.
The occasion also highlighted 220 years since the arrival of the first Chinese migrants to Trinidad and Tobago, a milestone that underscores the deep historical ties between the two nations.
The dual celebration of the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and 220 years since the arrival of the first Chinese migrants in Trinidad and Tobago prompted officials from both countries to express their commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic and cultural cooperation as they continue to build on that longstanding partnership.
These milestones, according to Chinese Ambassador Ren Hongyan, reflect the deep cultural and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
That relationship also extends into the diplomatic sphere, as Trinidad and Tobago prepares to begin its 2027–2028 term on the United Nations Security Council.
Minister of Housing David Lee says China’s permanent seat on the Council presents an opportunity for greater cooperation.
Likewise, the Chinese ambassador says China looks forward to working with Trinidad and Tobago to strengthen multilateralism and support the country’s role in the Caribbean and internationally.
It was reported that bilateral trade surpassed two billion US dollars in 2025, while diplomatic engagement continues.
