The lone survivor of the 2022 Paria Diving Tragedy, Christopher Boodram is suggesting improvements be made to the diving industry to avoid a repeat of the incident. He said in addition to ensuring that contractors are fully insured companies need to also put policies in place to respond to such incidents.
Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar presented a 1 million dollar ex-gratia payment to the lone survivor of the 2022 Paria diving tragedy, Christopher Boodram and two of the families of the men who died in the incident. The presentation was made on Thursday at the Diplomatic Centre to Mr. Boodram and the families of Rishi Nagessar and Fyzal Kurban.
Those three men along with Yusuf Henry and Kazim Ali Jr were sucked into a 30 inch pipe while they were doing maintenance work in February 2022. Christopher reflects on the emotional, physical, and psychological toll of the past three years, the power of family and shared support through trauma, and the long fight to be acknowledged.
