Fifteen artistes have advanced to the Grand Final of the 2026 International Chutney Soca Monarch, following semifinal competition held at the Flava Village on Friday.
Among the finalists is defending champion Machel Montano.
The pulsating rhythms of Chutney Soca Music filled the air at the Flava Village at the Queens Park Savannah on Friday night for the semi final round of the International Chutney Soca Monarch Competition. This was the first time in its history that the semi final round was held in the Capital City.
Fans and supporters were treated to performances from 34 competitors who hoped to make it to the Grand Finals.
Speaking to TTT News, Chief Executive Officer of Southex Limited George Singh expressed his pleasure to have the competition in Port of Spain.
“And I have to really commend the National Carnival Commission for coming up with the idea of the Flava Village and the John Cupid Village. I think that the John Cupid and the Flavour Village has been the biggest success story of Carnival 2026. So, Chutney Soka Monarch is really happy to be part of the Flavour Village.”
In 2012, the Grand Finals were held at the Queens Park Oval in Port of Spain. Mr Singh hinted at the possibility of hosting it in the capital city yet again.
“I had a meeting with the NCC, right? I told them, I said, without a doubt, book my date for the semi-final. And don’t be surprised if I tell you I want to do the final in Port of Spain. Because I think it’s a tremendous thing”
Mr Singh reiterated that this year, three winners will be crowned for three different categories.
“So the first prize is still $400,000. This year, we’re crowning, of course, a Queen of Chutney Soka.
And we are adding a traditional monarch.”
The Grand Finals of the Competition will take place on Sunday 8th February 2026 at Skinner Park in San Fernando.
This is also the first time the Grand Finals are being held on a Sunday.
