Colombia Deploys Troops Along Venezuela Border

Colombia has deployed troops along the border it shares with Venezuela, in an attempt to prevent a possible influx of Venezuelans into the country.

Writing on X, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced the deployment following US military action in Venezuela earlier today, which led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

“As a preventative measure, the National Government has implemented steps to protect the civilian population, preserve stability on the Colombian-Venezuelan border, and promptly address any potential humanitarian or migration needs, in coordination with local authorities and relevant agencies.”

Colombia and Venezuela share a border stretching more than 2,000 kilometres. Over the years, people from both countries have crossed over to escape economic or security hardships.
