Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, conducted New Year’s Eve patrols at several key shopping centres across Trinidad and Tobago as part of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s heightened holiday security operations.
Joining his officers on duty, the Commissioner spent New Year’s Eve criss-crossing the nation, conducting foot patrols to support the TTPS’s increased police presence customary for the festive season. The patrols began in the Southern Division, where he visited Gulf City Mall, C3 Shopping Centre, South Park Mall, and High Street, San Fernando.
He then proceeded to the Central Division, patrolling along the Chaguanas Main Road—one of the busiest thoroughfares on any given day—where he interacted with citizens enjoying early celebrations in anticipation of the New Year. The Commissioner later headed east, visiting Trinity Mall and East Gates Mall, where he met with business owners and staff.
The patrol tour concluded in the capital city, Port of Spain, where the Commissioner conducted foot patrols at Independence Square and Charlotte Street, before ending the night at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
Throughout the patrols, Commissioner Guevarro engaged with officers, vendors, business owners, and pedestrians, receiving real-time feedback from members of the communities served by the TTPS. The reassurance provided by the visible police presence was evident, with citizens expressing appreciation for the officers on patrol.
In conversation, Commissioner Guevarro stated that it was important for him to join his officers on New Year’s Eve patrols, noting that he would never ask them to undertake duties he himself was unwilling to perform.
