Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro has clarified that leave was restricted for members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service due to the extension of the State of Emergency, and not because of geopolitical factors.
At a Media Briefing on Tuesday, Commissioner Guevarro reaffirmed the TTPS’ commitment to tackling crime and criminality during this extension of the SOE.
He confirmed that since its implementation, 3,538 people have been arrested and 2,136 charged.
“I am just here today to reassure the public that similarly to the first time when the SOE was called on July the 18th and leave was restricted, likewise, when the extension was granted, I took a decision to also restrict leave so that the police can properly prepare for the operational mandate during the extended period. There was no nefarious intent whatsoever involved in that.”
