Political Leader of the Congress of the People, Prakash Ramadhar, has returned to the political arena with a call for change.
Speaking at the party’s reintroduction event on Saturday, Mr. Ramadhar said he returned for personal and patriotic reasons as he expressed deep love for Trinidad and Tobago and emphasised the country’s importance to him.
He said the party remains alive and relevant, and urged citizens to unite for progress and national transformation.
“This party was never dead, nor was it close to death. It was asleep because of the inuring power of the old political agenda that made us believe that there was no space for what Mr. Dookeran called new politics. I want to put to rest today that we were wrong to have called it new politics. What we exercise in the political sphere are the timeless values that have allowed societies for eons to have succeeded.”
As he continued to assert the party’s position Mr. Ramadhar urged citizens to unite under the COP’s vision for progress and national transformation. He reaffirmed that the COP is ready to contest elections and play a key role in shaping the country’s future.
“There are enemies around who wish to see us go to our demise, for the COP to be silenced. But I want to assure them this, that the COP didn’t start only 19 years ago. It started from the creation of Trinidad and Tobago, when people believe that their hard work, their blood, sweat and tears was not just for themselves, but for the next generation and generations thereafter, who believe that there must be decency, there must be honour, there must be integrity in public life.”
