Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro has commended his officers for their professionalism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Trinidad and Tobago.
The Commissioner’s commendation follows major developments in an investigation in which two men were recently charged for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and appeared before the Port of Spain High Court North on Thursday, December 4th, 2025, where the charges were laid indictably. Both were denied bail.
The arrests were the result of sustained efforts by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). On December 1st 2025, SIU officers executed an operation in the Western Division, detaining three persons for enquiries. During the operation, officers seized £7,005 British Pounds Sterling, €150 Euros, and TT$69,820. The Financial Investigation Bureau (FIB) was engaged and continues enquiries under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
A statement from the TTPS said the actions followed an intelligence-led operation carried out nearly a year ago, on December 8th, 2024, at the Piarco International Airport cargo area. During that exercise, SIU officers seized 65 kilogrammes of cocaine, with an estimated street value of TT$91 million. The Specialist Evidence Recovery Unit (SERU) and the Forensic Science Laboratory examined the confiscated items, providing critical leads that advanced the investigation.
The TTPS noted that success was achieved through strong leadership within the SIU, diligent investigative work, and seamless inter-agency collaboration involving SERU, IATF, NOTF, FIB, CID/CRO, and external partners.
Commissioner Guevarro further stated that their efforts highlight the strength of intelligence-driven policing and the power of collaboration.
“These drug traffickers believed they had escaped unscathed and could not be found, but my officers were relentless in their investigations, and the long arm of the law eventually held on to them. Crime hides in cargo, but justice arrives in uniform. Those who think they can outwit the TTPS will learn that intelligence is our weapon of choice, and every seizure is us reclaiming the future of Trinidad and Tobago. Time is longer than twine.”
