COSTAATT Blends Carnival And Wellness At Annual Run For Life

The spirit of Carnival met the spirit of wellness at COSTAATT’s 13th Annual Run for Life 5K and Health Fair.

Participants enjoyed a morning of fitness, health screenings and festive fun, all in support of student bursaries.

The Spirit of Mardi Gras was on full display at COSTAATT’s 13th Annual Run for Life 5K and Health Fair on Sunday morning.

Runners came out, donned in their festive attire, ready to hit the road to soca music.

Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Helen Williams-Cumberbatch, explained the objective of the event and some of the changes applied to this year’s event.

“We started this many years ago with the aim of eventually raising funds so that we can support student bursaries and help our students with offsetting some financial costs. This year we put a little twist on it; we’ve combined it with our annual health fair, which is typically a separate event, and so we’re having the 5K and the health fair in one this year, and we’re hoping to double up and get folks involved. So after they finish the 5K, they can go and access some of the services, get some testing done.”

COSTAATT nursing students worked alongside healthcare professionals at the Health Fair, where participants had access to free eye examinations and other health services.

Some even engaged in exciting trivia.

As participants crossed the finish line and removed their extravagant headpieces to receive their medals, it was certain that the Carnival-inspired event was a perfect fusion of fitness, wellness and festivity.
