Chairman of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation, Ryan Rampersad, is encouraging people to come to Couva for Carnival this year.
He says the Corporation has started the groundwork, and preparations are already underway for the staging of this year’s festivities.
“We are also assisting with the building of various stages. The Couva Carnival Committee, they have a massive show that has been growing year after year. It’s a wonderful event in Couva. I’m inviting people to come to Couva Carnival. We are presently building the stage there, working along with the Couva Carnival Committee also.”
Mr. Rampersad noted that the Municipal Police will be out supporting the TTPS throughout the festivities.
“Our Municipal Police, they are very much on top of their game. They will be doing their patrols in all the communities where we have Carnival activities. We have been liaising with T&TEC also. T&TEC, they are looking at the routes where you have the big trucks passing, and they are also sensitising the various Carnival bands as to, you know, safe usage of the roads. You know, the trucks are very high, and you have some areas where the lines, electrical lines, may be low. So, in terms of, you know, experiencing Carnival, but in a very safe way.”
Mr. Rampersad took the opportunity to encourage people to be safe during the season.
“To everyone participating in Carnival within the municipality of Couva, Tabaquite, Talparo, and by extension, all of Trinidad and Tobago, I want to wish you all a very happy and enjoyable Carnival. But more importantly, let’s make it very safe. Let’s keep our heads on. Let’s also keep an eye on the kids who are outside there with us, as well as those kids who may be at home. Please don’t leave the kids at home alone. So, I’m asking that good sense prevail whilst we enjoy our Carnival activities. Some of us may be forced to enjoy it at home looking on at TV. So be it. But at the end of the day, let’s keep Trinidad and Tobago a very safe place, and let’s make it a place where even the visitors will want to return next year and the other coming years.”
Mr. Rampersad told TTT News that Carnival festivities will also kick off in the Brazil community this weekend, with crews and other workers on standby to manage post-event cleanup.
