Another business chamber is welcoming the increased Customs fees.
In an interview with TTT News, the President of the Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce, Deoraj Mahase, described the increase as small when compared to the value of the goods.
“Based on the figures that were announced, those fees are relatively nominal. I mean, compared to the value of the cargo that is being imported, the impacts should be small.”
Mr. Mahase is also anticipating improvements in Customs processing in the coming year.
“There have been measures that were announced that would try to do faster processing and improve the services to the business community and to the general public from the Customs and Excise Division and from the relevant Ministries, so I think these improvements will mitigate those small costs.”
