Crime: Belmont Man Held Following Execution Of Detention Order, Man Arrested In Pasea with AR-15 Rifle

A 26-year-old Belmont man was arrested by officers of the Port of Spain Gang and Intelligence Unit (POSGIU), following the granting of a Prevention Detention Order by Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander, on Monday August 11th, 2025.

Officers executed the Detention Order on Tuesday August 12th, 2025, and conveyed the detainee to a facility in the Northern Division, in compliance with the Order.

The operation was supervised by Snr. Supt. Thom, Supt. Baird and ASP Mongroo and comprised a team of officers of the POSGIU.

Meanwhile, one man was arrested by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force and other law enforcement bodies in the Pasea district for being in possession of an AR-15 rifle loaded with a magazine and 34 rounds of ammunition.

The arrest took place during the period between 3am and 8am today, and the exercise was supervised by Supt. Pariman, ASP Ramharack, Insp. Phillip and Sgt. Katerson.

Investigations are ongoing into the above matter.
