A Chase Village man has been charged with the Carnival Tuesday murder of Irving Joaquin Mayora Gonzalez, which occurred in the St. James district.
Sixty one year old Nicholas Mahabir, of Derrick Road Extension, was charged with the offence on Monday. He was also charged with four counts of Shooting with Intent, Possession of Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition.
Gonzales was near the St. James Market, along the Western Main Road on Carnival Tuesday, when several explosions were heard. First responders subsequently found five persons with gunshot wounds about the body. The victim and four others were taken to the St. James Health Centre for medical treatment, where Gonzales died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, 35 year old Juman Ali Sahadath of Port of Spain has been charged with the February 23rd murder of nine-year-old Aneilia Butler. Aneilia’s body was discovered in a room after a fire at her family’s Beetham Gardens home.
And 20-year-old Akeem Simon was charged with the murder of David Stanley Gregoir. On February 15th, 29 year old Gregoir, of Diego Martin, was found wounded along Ariapita Avenue. He subsequently died at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
