Crime: Rifle Seized In Port of Spain, Ten Venezuelans Held In Illegal Entry Bust

Ten Venezuelan nationals who attempted to enter the country illegally were arrested, while a rifle and a quantity of ammunition was seized during anti-crime operations conducted in the South Western and Port of Spain Divisions yesterday.

In the first incident, an exercise was conducted by personnel of the Inter-Agency Task Force between 7am and 9am, on Monday September 8th, 2025, during which they proceeded to a building in the Nelson Street Plannings, where a search was conducted.

During the search officers found one rifle loaded with a magazine containing 22 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, wrapped in plastic on the rooftop of the building.

The exercise was spearheaded by ACP Hazel, Snr. Supt. Sooker, Supt. Ramsook and ASP Singh.

Meanwhile, officers of the South Western Division intercepted a vessel approximately one mile from shore in the Erin district at around 7:05am yesterday.

Ten Venezuelan nationals, ages 7 to 25, were detained and officials of the Immigration Department and the Children’s Authority informed.

Investigations are ongoing into the above matters.
