Crime Round-Up: Barrackpore Businessman On Fraud Charges, 15 Year Old Held For Fatal Stabbing

A 33 year old businessman has been charged with fraud in the sum of $47,000.

Stefon Rabindrunath, of Barrackpore, was charged with the offence on Friday June 7th.

A victim reported that in December 2020, they paid $47,000 via a manager’s cheque for the purchase and importation of a vehicle. The vehicle valued at $97,000 was to be delivered in six weeks’ time. The man allegedly failed to deliver the vehicle and attempts by the victim to recover the money proved futile.

A report was made to the police and an investigation launched by the Fraud Squad.

The Fraud Squad is reminding the public before purchasing any vehicle through an agent, to check with the Ministry of Trade and Industry to verify that the agent is authorised to conduct such transactions.

In other crime news, a 15 year old boy from Caroni is being questioned in connection with the fatal stabbing of another male teen.

According to police reports, 15 year old Christian Lashley of Lashley Lane, off Crown Trace in Enterprise, was stabbed while liming with a group of boys at the Chrissie Trace Recreation Ground in Enterprise, Chaguanas on Sunday afternoon.

Lashley was taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility, then later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. He died while being treated.

The suspect, accompanied by a close male relative, surrendered to Chaguanas police on Sunday night.

Police are continuing investigations.
