Crime Round-Up: Robbery Suspect Held, Tobago Police Seize Cocaine

Police arrested a robbery suspect, seized a firearm and recovered a stolen vehicle while responding to a report of a robbery on Friday.

According to police reports, a proprietor of Oropune Gardens, Piarco was held up by three men, one armed with a firearm and another with a cutlass. The suspects stole $400 in cash and an iPhone valued at $8,000. The suspects took the victim to a nearby house where they robbed another man of $30,000 in cash.

Police officers responded and noticed a motor vehicle bearing false plates at the front of the mini-mart. They arrested a man from Diego Martin, while the others escaped. Police officers found a Smith and Wesson pistol, and 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Checks revealed that the firearm and vehicle were stolen during a home invasion in Arima on Tuesday May 28th.

In other crime news, Tobago police, acting on intelligence, seized a quantity of cocaine in the division on Saturday.

According to police reports, at around 7:15am on June 1st, police officers, acting on a tip-off, went to an area at Gaskin Bay Road, Bon Accord. A search was conducted of a bushy area nearby and a black plastic bag containing 44 clear plastic bags was found. Each of the clear plastic bags contained a quantity of white substance resembling cocaine.

The items were seized and police are continuing inquiries.
