CXC Scraps CSEC Mathematics Paper 2 After Exam Leak

Grades for the 2023 CSEC Mathematics Exam will be determined utilising scores from Paper 1 and the School-Based Assessment.

The decision was made after the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) completed its investigation into a leak of the Paper 2 Mathematics exam which was reported on Wednesday.

Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of CXC, Dr. Wayne Wesley, delivered a statement to the media on Friday. He said CXC and regional Ministries of Education recognise that candidates have spent months preparing for the Mathematics Paper 2 examination, and noted the news of the security breach of the examination has caused much anxiety and concern.

Dr. Wesley said the leaked Mathematics paper would have been shared throughout the region via social media. He said CXC’s security measures are now being used “to validate and to check on when there are breaches.”

Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Education notes the modified grading system was previously used in 2020 and 2021 and is the alternative to having students repeat Paper 2 with an alternative examination paper.
