DNA League Aims To Boost Community Development

Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs David Nakhid says there is a need for leaders to stop giving lip service to change and to make real moves for change to happen.

He says this is one of the main reasons for creating the David Nakhid Academy (DNA) East–West Corridor Football League.

Senator Nakhid said the League is needed at this time in our country’s development.

“There cannot be community unless we facilitate what is needed to bring community. There cannot be. We can’t just say we have to bring the community back and don’t give them anything. We have to provide them with something.”

Speaking at the Launch of the League at the Eddie Hart Ground on Saturday, Senator Nakhid commended Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar for giving her blessing to the initiative.

“The people who are now about to take this field, who are about for the next seven months, every week to put their bodies on the line, to be interested in their development physically, mentally, we’re going to have skills training. The Honourable Minister Prakash Persad immediately offered skills training for all the teams that are involved. We’re going to have the Minister of Education involved as well. So you have to understand, this whole ecosystem that is going to be built around this developmental initiative was the brainchild, not of David Nakhid, but the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar SC”

The league features a $120,000 top prize, with thirty-two teams set to play.
