As Trinidad and Tobago prepares to mark its 64th Independence Day on Monday, authorities are reminding the public that drones are prohibited in several designated no-fly zones.
The warning comes as enhanced security measures are being put in place for the celebrations in Port of Spain.
The Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority says drone operations are prohibited in Port of Spain and several other designated areas, including Chaguaramas, Caroni, Point-a-Pierre, Point Lisas, Point Fortin and Galeota.
Drones are also restricted within five kilometres of manned aircraft operations and airport boundaries, and within two kilometres of helipads.
Additional restrictions apply to flying drones above 400 feet, over crowded areas and public events.
For Monday’s Independence celebrations, the TTPS says counter-drone measures will be deployed across Port of Spain and surrounding areas.
The measures will cover the military parade, cultural show, fireworks and drone display.
The Police Air Support Unit and other law enforcement agencies will monitor for unauthorized or unsafe drone activity throughout the day.
Authorities say action will be taken where drones pose a risk to the public, security personnel, attendees or aircraft.
Members of the public are being urged to follow the restrictions and ensure their drone operations do not interfere with the Independence Day celebrations.
